Music
Trinity’s music program provides opportunities for students to learn, love, and discover their inner musicians.
Early Childhood Campus (2’s-TK)
Within the earliest years of our early childhood campus, exposure to music helps children learn numeracy, literacy, and social-emotional skills. Music helps the body and mind work together in concert. Children and adults naturally respond to hearing music by moving to the beat or just singing along. By incorporating music into our everyday routines, students will learn the elements of melody, lyrical content, rhythm, and singing on pitch. Students gain confidence and joy to create music harmoniously by singing age-appropriate songs and playing musical games. As the children age, they learn simple pieces of music on glockenspiels (a small relative of the xylophone) and the fundamentals of music theory. This is significant as students gain the ability to name and understand musical elements they have been learning.
Elementary Campus (Kindergarten to Grade 5)
All grade levels within our Elementary Campus become skilled in the Orff music methodology. This child-centered and performance-based method treats music like learning a language in that it can be mastered with a gentle approach. Students use xylophones and metallophones to communicate with each other and audience members. Across their elementary years, musicians will learn to read sheet music, understand music theory, explore music technology, play various percussion instruments (tuned and untuned), and sing melody and harmony on the pitch and in time. Each class forms a grade-level band that prepares and performs songs for various Trinity school events throughout the year. Students rotate roles within their band, from playing multiple instruments to singing. The culminating performance is a beautiful representation of their skill mastery, dedication, and creativity.
