  • Science and Garden

How can I use Science to solve mysteries? What do the outdoors teach me?

Children’s natural curiosity meets the wonders of scientific discovery. Scientific concepts come alive through hands-on activities, gardening, physiology and anatomy, matter and energy, oceanography, geology, the solar system, and earth science.

Our campus garden and hydroponics greenhouse allow students to try their green thumb outside the classroom. Field trips lend experiences to different ecosystems, guest presenters, and hands-on ecological activities, heightening students’ abilities to apply scientific knowledge and thinking in their world.
  • Art

How can I show my ideas through art?

Line, shape, color, value, contour, ceramics, multicultural art, self-portraiture, and artist studies. Students’ creative practice increases their confidence and skill from grade to grade.  Trinity’s Annual Art Show celebrates the skills and creativity that students explore in their art.

  • Chapel and Religious Studies

How do I explore my vast questions about life?

Chapel is your time to think, come together, sing, pray, celebrate birthdays, announce ideas, or act in a play. Chapel welcomes all faith traditions. Chaplains help you connect biblical quests for love and justice to playground life.

You can explore your and others’ spiritual and ethical traditions in religious studies. Topics for discussion come from Chapel themes and your big questions. Both Chapel and Religious Studies uphold your unique faith journey, your life quest.

  • Physical Education

What can my body do in space and time? How do I care for my body?

PE is fun! You see it in the games and activities that invite teamwork and sportsmanship. Comfortable competition sparks intrinsic motivation in a supportive environment. Students cheer and play hard toward common goals. A healthy body, physical competence, cooperative social skills, and individual goal-setting build healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Spanish

How does exposure to another language change the way I think?

Hands-on activities using art, cooking, music, technology, dialog, reading, research, and writing motivate students. Students learn through academically appropriate methods in second language acquisition from grade to grade. The goal of Spanish language instruction is exposure to this California heritage language and the many cultures that speak it.

  • Library

How can I let my imagination run wild? Read! How do I find a good book? Come to the Library!

Trinity School is passionate about its Library. We want every child to love books and find, evaluate, and use information in their projects. Trinity’s Kin May Wen Tang Library generates special collections relevant to grade-level curricula. We welcome visiting authors.

  • Music

Music is learned through performance. At Trinity, we have many opportunities to learn and prepare for musical showcases. Students learn to play Orff-based xylophones, metallophones, and glockenspiels  - these instruments are a cornerstone of the learning process. Students learn to become more comfortable with their voice through choral exercises focusing on breathing, tone, and pitch. Students showcase vocals and instruments learned during Trinity performances throughout the school year. Given the challenge, young students can have a high level of musicianship.
  • Design Thinking

In Design Thinking, students can apply for academic and social-emotional work from home classrooms while expressing themselves through different projects and assignments.

  • Science

Nearly every encounter with the environment is science in action for your child. How do these two tubes fit together? What will this sow bug feel when it walks across my hand? What holds water? What sinks? Can I make a block float? Teachers constantly watch for these learning opportunities. They help children try out ideas, develop language concepts, document what happened, and pose new questions to test out again.
  • Art

Children create art every day. Teacher guidance in the studio encourages even more complexity in children’s skills and expression. Children use tempera, watercolor, acrylic paints, chalk and oil pastels, recycled materials, clay, plaster, and more. Principles of line, shape, color, and value become their comfortable tools for expression as they learn from other artists, multicultural art, and three-dimensional composition.
  • Music and Spanish

Children love to wiggle, shimmy, twist, turn, and jump. Moving to the beat of the music and singing to the rhythm and tone are natural responses. We listen to music from 50’s Rock & Roll to Beethoven to Salsa and Jazz, dancing and singing our hearts out. Children hear the different musical instruments in an orchestra and practice using their musical instrument, voice. We want children to have confident voices to express the music inside them.
  • Chapel

The light in the beautiful Chapel creates a space for comfortable awe. A Chaplain from Trinity Church gathers the children weekly for a song and then a story and then guides a conversation based on it, encouraging children’s wondering and reflections. Children offer their prayers or thoughts in this interactive time.
  • Book Bags and Library

Over thirty Book Bags await each child. Choosing one a week, children share five varied and carefully selected books from Trinity’s Kin May Tang Library to take home, read, and enjoy. The following week, another bag awaits your child. Lower Campus families also have full access to the Tang Library. Also, the Lower Campus has a robust and varied collection for in-class use.
